Masonic Village Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday
|
Ernest A. Albert, a resident of the Masonic Village in Lafayette
Hill, Pa., will celebrate his 100th birthday on November 26.
Mr. Albert is a native of Philadelphia. After graduating from La
France Art Institute in Frankford, Pa., he worked for several engraving companies doing photo
retouching, freehand drawing, lettering layout work and graphic illustrations,
before retiring from Beck Engraving Company in Philadelphia.
He and his late wife, Mabel Toten, married in 1929 and settled in
Torresdale, Pa.
An accomplished artist, Mr. Albert is known for his woodcarvings,
landscape paintings and drawings. He won several awards including first prize at the
Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1924, was awarded six times the "Best Works in Realism" prize by
The Women's Club of Frankford Art Association and was selected as one of the top 100
finalists in the First American Artist Magazine's national competition in 1978.
Mr. Albert has traveled throughout the United States and the
world, including Yellow Stone National Park, Grand Canyon, Alaska, Scandinavia and South Africa.
From 1950-1960, Mr. Albert was a choir member in the All Saints
Episcopal Church in Torresdale, Pa. Later he became a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran
Church in Huntingdon Valley.
He is a member of Oriental Masonic Lodge No. 385.
His advice for longevity is, "work, make friends, stay active
and find a hobby you like."
