Masonic Village Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday
|
Zolenig Terzian, a resident of Masonic Village in Lafayette Hill,
Pa. will celebrate her 100th birthday on December 15.
Mrs. Terzian was born in Arabkir, Turkey. She is a survivor of the
Armenian Massacre of 1915-1916, the first genocide of the 20th century which was responsible for 1.5
million Armenian deaths. Living in constant fear for her life, at the age of 19, she fled to Beirut,
Lebanon. With hopes of finding a husband, she left Beirut a few years later for Havana, Cuba, and she never saw
her mother again.
Her trip was successful, as she met and married her late husband,
Vahan Terzian. They immigrated to the United States and settled in Philadelphia to start a
new life.
Mrs. Terzian was a homemaker and raised three children. She loved
cooking and was well-known for her traditional Armenian meals. She was employed as a
seamstress in several women's fashion dress shops, retiring at age 75. She is a
life-long member of the Armenian Apostolic Church. As an active church member, she
assisted in many community activities and charities.
