Support for Families Affected by Alzheimer's Disease
|
An estimated 4.5 million Americans have Alzheimer's disease. By 2050, it is estimated that between 11.3 million to 16 million persons will suffer from this disease. One in 10 individuals over age 65 and nearly half of persons over age 85 has Alzheimer's disease. Rare forms of the disease can affect people in their 30s and 40s. During the span of the disease, the average cost of care for a person suffering from Alzheimer's is $170,000.
The Masonic Village at Elizabethtown offers a support group for families and friends who are coping with the losses of this disease. The Family Dementia Support Group offers educational speakers and open discussions on topics such as medication use and research. The group meets 10:30-11:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the Washington 1 Classroom in the Masonic Health Care Center in Elizabethtown. Refreshments are provided.
If you are interested in attending an upcoming meeting or would like more information, contact Jan Hendershot at (717) 367-1121, ext. 33764, or Tammy Stauffer at ext. 33654.
