Elfed Jones, a resident of the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, will
celebrate
his 100th birthday on October 16. A native of Nanticoke, Pa, Mr. Jones
served as a
Boy Scout Scoutmaster and was a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian
Church in
Bloomsburg, Pa.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as a teacher, coach and principal in
the Wilkes-Barre
School District and a supervising principal in Scott Township. He also was
the supervising
principal of Elementary education at the Central Columbia County Joint
Schools.
With his love and talent for sports, Mr. Jones coached football, basketball
and track for
high school and college levels. These achievements awarded Mr. Jones an
induction into the
Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame. One of his current hobbies is
mentoring young
people in sports and education.
Today, he still enjoys watching football, basketball and baseball on
television and cheering
for his favorite team, the Yankees. Mr. Jones is a member of the
Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club, Irem
Temple Country Club and a 50+ year Mason of Landmark Lodge No. 442.
Mr. Jones and his late wife, Darathea, raised one daughter Gayle Reed, and
have two
grandchildren.
His secret to longevity is, "Don't smoke and do everything in moderation."
