Masonic Village Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday 10/01/04

Elfed Jones, a resident of the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, will celebrate his 100th birthday on October 16. A native of Nanticoke, Pa, Mr. Jones served as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster and was a deacon and elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Bloomsburg, Pa.

Prior to retirement, he was employed as a teacher, coach and principal in the Wilkes-Barre School District and a supervising principal in Scott Township. He also was the supervising principal of Elementary education at the Central Columbia County Joint Schools.

With his love and talent for sports, Mr. Jones coached football, basketball and track for high school and college levels. These achievements awarded Mr. Jones an induction into the Bloomsburg University Athletic Hall of Fame. One of his current hobbies is mentoring young people in sports and education.

Today, he still enjoys watching football, basketball and baseball on television and cheering for his favorite team, the Yankees. Mr. Jones is a member of the Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club, Irem Temple Country Club and a 50+ year Mason of Landmark Lodge No. 442.

Mr. Jones and his late wife, Darathea, raised one daughter Gayle Reed, and have two grandchildren.

His secret to longevity is, "Don't smoke and do everything in moderation."
