Masonic Villages Adopt Smoke-Free Policy
|
The Masonic Villages, with locations in Elizabethtown, Lafayette Hill,
Sewickley, Warminster and Dallas, Pa., will become smoke-free
communities. Chief Executive Officer Joseph E. Murphy made the
announcement after receiving approval of the policy change by the
organization's board of directors last month.
"This commitment to becoming smoke-free communities is a continuation of
our wellness initiatives," Murphy said. "We monitor trends and best
practices and focus on input from our important constituents - our
residents, families, employees, volunteers and visitors - and this
decision was based on input from these groups, changing thought in
society and our desire to provide leadership from a health and welfare
perspective."
For all families, volunteers, visitors and those doing business on the
Masonic Village properties, this no smoking policy is effective today.
Due to the substantial time staff spend on campus, the policy will be
fully implemented by July 1, 2007, providing employees time to prepare
for the change.
Residents of the Masonic Village communities, or those who have
contracted with a Masonic Village by today, will be grandfathered under
the former smoking policy, which provides limited areas on campus where
smoking has been allowed. All new residents after today will be
informed that they will be covered by the new smoke-free policy.
To assist residents and employees who smoke, the Masonic Villages will
continue to offer substantial information, education and support through
smoking cessation classes and support groups.
