Masonic Village Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday
|
Ethel M. Myers, a resident of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, will celebrate her
100th birthday on July 10.
A native of Philadelphia, she grew up with her younger sister, Myrtle. She was the
valedictorian of her eighth grade class at the Adair School, Philadelphia. During her teenage
years she worked as a secretary for A.J. Reach Company, a baseball manufacturer. She continued
her employment there after her high school graduation until marriage, when she was promoted as
executive secretary for the company's president.
Mrs. Myers married her late husband, Harry C. Myers on October 3, 1928. They had two
Children: Eugene, of Overland Park, Kansas, and the Rev. Joyce Myers-Brown, of Atlanta,
Georgia.
Mrs. Myers thrived as a homemaker. The family's favorite vacation spot was Ocean City,
N.J. Mr. and Mrs. Myers spent their retirement years at Somers Point, N.J.
Mrs. Myers loved to sing and was a member in several choruses, including the Mother's
Chorus at Edmunds Grammar School, the Pilgrim Congregational Church, the Frankford
Congregational Church and the Margate Community Church. She also sang at friends'
weddings.
An avid gardener, she continued to take care of her yard, trimming shrubs and trees and
planting flowers until her early 90s.
She still gives gardening advice and enjoys listening to music and visiting with her seven
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Myers will be celebrating her birthday with family and friends at a local restaurant
and also at Masonic Village.
