Masonic Village Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday

Clara Blanksby, a resident of the Masonic Village, Warminster, Pa., will celebrate her 100th birthday on June 28. A native of Paxinos, Pa., Mrs. Blanksby grew up with three sisters and two brothers.

In 1927, she won the title of Miss Shamokin. The contest was sponsored by the local merchants to promote the town. The residents would vote by buying tickets at the general store. One of her prizes was a four-day trip to Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Blanksby and her late husband George loved to travel. They visited many locations, including Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland and Spain. Mrs. Blanksby retired from Shawda Metalworks in Shamokin as a bookkeeper.

Mrs. Blanksby believes that keeping busy and having a good attitude is the key to a healthy and long life. Today, she reads mystery novels, plays piano for church services, takes walks, goes on local trips and is a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Friendship Chapter No. 551.
