Couple Celebrates
60th Wedding
Anniversary
|
Aulay and Isabel Tompkins will celebrate their 60th wedding
anniversary on June 29 at the
Masonic Village in Elizabethtown, Pa. They were married in 1946 in
Boyertown, Pa.
They met on a blind date that was arranged by a co-worker.
Stationed in Germany, Mr. Tompkins served for four years in the
Army as a tank driver for
the 3rd Armored Division. After the service, he worked for Sperry-New
Holland, New Holland, Pa.,
for 29 years. He is a member of the Reading Masonic Lodge No. 529. He
enjoys reading, especially
books about the Civil War.
Mrs. Tompkins, formerly Isabel Hartman, is a member of the
Hershey Order of Eastern Star
Chapter No. 521. She worked as a R.N. and a surgical nurse at Reading
Hospital and then as
a private duty nurse. She enjoys sewing and reading medical journals.
They both belong to the United Church of Christ in Boyertown,
Pa.
They have two children, Anne L. Kent, of Lebanon, Pa., and Gary,
of Sinking Springs, Pa.,
three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Their secret to their happy marriage is to have common
interests. They will be celebrating
with family and friends at Masonic Village.
