Treasures from the Past

In today's world, we tend to get caught up in our modern technologies - the computer, television, cell phones - and while we are grateful for today's conveniences, it's nice to take a step back in time to a quieter, peaceful era. You can catch a glimpse of that serene lifestyle by visiting the Museum at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown.

The Museum is filled with hundreds of treasures from the past, including early photos depicting resident life and the changing Elizabethtown campus, obsolete farm equipment, antique grandfather clocks, mementos from former residents, Masonic-related memorabilia and much more.

The Museum also features antiques and recent handiwork donated by residents and friends of the Masonic Villages.

Listed below are just a few of treasures at the Museum to tempt your historic tastebuds:
  • "A Stitch in Time" display on loan from The Masonic Library and Museum of Pennsylvania. This collection of needlepoint features a gentleman's waistcoat from the 1860s, a mid-19th century child's apron, a late 18th century/early 19th century handkerchief and jewel pouches from the 19th and 20th centuries.
  • A Masonic Carousel, made by Bro. Larry Ebersole, Treichler Lodge 682, that lights up and goes around and around (a favorite for young visitors).
  • A Civil War fife and drum, handmade by a P.O.W. in the Civil War. The snare drum was used in Gettysburg in July 1863.

Located in the Freemasons Cultural Center on the Elizabethtown campus, the Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 8 - 11 a.m. and 1 - 4 p.m., and Sunday, 1 - 4 p.m. The Museum is closed New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
