Masonic Village Resident Celebrates 105th Birthday

Mrs. Jean G. Gelder, a resident of Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, Pa; celebrated her 105th birthday on April 2 with family, friends and staff.

A believer that to keep young you must stay active, Mrs. Gelder takes walks when weather permits and since last November has even become a member of the on-campus wellness center. She also enjoys watching TV classics Murder She Wrote and Perry Mason.

A native of Brownsville, Pa., she lived on a 65-acre farm with her family. The youngest of eight children, she enjoyed rollerskating and playing with her family s cats and dogs.

After two years of business school, she worked six years as a stenographer for Monongahela Railroad. After retiring as a bank teller from the First National Bank of Brownsville, Mrs. Gelder lived in Baltimore and then Treasure Island, Fl. For 20 years.

She and her late husband, Lawrence Butch, were married on Oct. 11, 1924, and raised two sons, Charles and James, and one daughter, Anne Powers, also a resident at Masonic Village. She has seven grandchildren, nine great-children and three great-great-grandchildren.

Knowing about Masonic Village since she was a little girl, Mrs. Gelder was happy to become a resident in August 2000.
