Masonic Village at Dallas
We're not talking about Texas, but Dallas, Pa.! Located in Luzerne County, approximately 15 minutes from Wilkes-Barre, the newest Masonic Village will be built on the grounds of the beautiful Irem Country Club.

This joint venture between the Masonic Villages and the Irem Shrine came about when the Irem leadership shared their interest with us in developing an active golf course community to benefit their current and future members. Since their area is an underserved part of our Commonwealth, as it is more than two hours from a Masonic retirement community, the Masonic Villages conducted some studies to determine the cost of the venture and the possibility of its success.

On March 9, 2005, Masonic Villages leadership presented a proposal to the members of the Irem Shrine in Dallas, Pa., who unanimously voted to approve pre-marketing of 59 retirement living apartments and 38 cottage homes by the Masonic Villages.

Marketing efforts have begun, and construction will proceed if 70 percent of the units are reserved by the end of 2005. Entrance fees for the living units will cover the cost of construction. Residents of our newest community would have an opportunity to live in one of the premier golf retirement communities in the country. They would enjoy the same peace of mind and security in knowing quality healthcare services would be available, should they ever need them, through preferred access to our Masonic Village healthcare facilities in Elizabethtown, Lafayette Hill, Sewickley and Warminster.

History of Irem Shrine

The Irem Shrine, located in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., was the 71st Shrine Center chartered in 1895 by the Imperial Council. A part of the Family of Freemasonry, the Shriners are known for their colorful parades, circuses and their official philanthropy: the Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of hospitals that provide free orthopedic, burn and spinal cord injury care to children under age 18.

The Irem Shrine Center established the Irem Country Club and Golf Course in 1923 after purchasing the Derr Estate in Dallas Township in 1922. The Irem Country Club has grown over the years and now includes one of the largest pavilions in Northeast Pennsylvania, an RV park with a pavilion, a smaller pavilion at the Gun Club and rooms for overnight accommodations.
