| Brother Roberto Soto was born on June 7, 1959 in Humacao, Puerto Rico and was born of very humble beginnings. Brother Soto was born one of seven children and at the time of his birth, both his father and mother, along with all of his older siblings were laborers in the sugar cane fields of Puerto Rico, where the days are long, the pay is short and the work is hard. In 1968, two of his older brothers came to the United States in search of a better life and settled in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. After working for two years as laborers in a bicycle factory, they earned enough money to pay for the rest of the family's passage to America. So in 1970, at the tender age of 11, brother Soto came to the United States. Unfortunately however, Brother Soto's father passed away in 1969 and never had the opportunity to see America's shores. The family settled in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, until 1976 when they moved to Reading, Pennsylvania.
Brother Soto graduated from Reading High School and has attended Reading Area Community College and Temple University, majoring in criminal justice. From 1983 to 1987, brother Soto worked as a Berks County prison guard and as a part time police officer for Lower Heidelberg Township in Berks County. On June 28, 1987, brother Soto enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police and following his training at the State Police Academy, was assigned to Troop "K", Philadelphia. In December of 1989, Brother Soto was assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation , Drug Law Enforcement Division as an undercover investigator and in April of 1995, Brother Soto was assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Organized Crime Division, Eastern Task Force, where he is currently serving as an investigator of organized crime and organized criminal activities. Brother Soto has distinguished himself as a member of the Pennsylvania State Police and is the recipient of numerous commendations and awards for his work in drug law enforcement, most noted of which is the letter of commendation from the Mayor of the City of Reading for his efforts in uncovering a multi-million dollar Mexican marijuana drug cartel operating in Reading city. Brother Soto is currently married and has been blessed with four children. One of the things Bro. Soto remembers most about his childhood is the voice of his father telling him to study hard, so he could go to the United States and get a good job. Brother Soto has done very well and has brought honor to his family. If his father were here today, he would be very proud of his son. |
