The Deputy Grand Master is mild-mannered Marvin A. Cunningham, Sr., an amiable Mason who already has retired twice in his career -- once from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Dental Technician and then from the Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution as the Manager of Correctional Industries at Graterford. Today, he is busy serving the Fraternity and finds his relaxation in traveling with his wife, Rosalie, and playing golf whenever he can.
Bro. Cunningham was born in Batavia, IA, Sept. 1, 1933 and educated in the public schools there and in Illinois. He was graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, IL, in 1952. After graduation he worked for International Harvester in East Moline, where he was active in the Boy Scouts and as a Sunday school teacher. He is married to the former Rosalie Mae Bracket and they are the parents of a daughter and two sons.
He is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, having served in the U.S. Navy for more than 20 years before retiring as a Chief Dental Technician in 1977. Bro. Cunningham began working for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections managing a 34-bench dental laboratory at the prison at Graterford. Before his retirement there in Oct. 1995, he was the manager of Correction Industries, which included operating a 1,500-acre farm and dairy.
The Deputy Grand Master's Masonic travels began in 1961 in Silvis Lodge No. 898, A.F. & A.M., in Illinois. In 1980, he transferred to Warren Lodge No. 310, F. & A.M., in Collegeville, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1985. He was a Senior Instructor in the 6th Masonic District's School of Instruction in 1986 and 1987, also serving as its President the latter year. During the same time, he was the District's Project Solomon II Director. He then served eight years, 1988 to 1995, as the 6th Masonic District Deputy Grand Master before being elected R.W. Grand Junior Warden in 1996.
Bro. Cunningham is a member of the York Rite bodies in Norristown.
