James L. and Brenda Ernette

The new Grand Master, 52, is a retired Pennsylvania State Policeman, a successful businessman, an active community leader, and a busy Mason.

He is the Owner and President of Unity Printing Co., Latrobe. He was a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper from 1967 to 1984. He is a graduate of Hempfield Area Senior High School; Point Park College, Pittsburgh; and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy.

He and his wife, Brenda (Smith), have a daughter, Lisa, the wife of Bro. G. Joseph Frederick, and a granddaughter, Ashley Frederick. The Ernettes are members of The Charter Oak United Methodist Church, Greensburg.

Bro. Ernette was elected Grand Master during the Quarterly Communication of the Grand Lodge in Philadelphia on December 3 after having served two years as R.W. Deputy Grand Master. Previously, he served the Grand Lodge as R.W. Senior Grand Warden in 1994-95, and R.W. Junior Grand Warden in 1992-93. He was a District Deputy Grand Master from 1987 through 1991, and Worshipful Master of his Lodge in 1980. From 1982-86, he served Grand Lodge in the appointed office of Senior Grand Deacon. He has served as the President of the Pennsylvania Masonic Foundation for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Among Children and on the Board of Directors of the National Masonic Foundation for Children.

Jay Ernette, owner and President of Unity Printing, is an active, successful businessman in the Latrobe area.

In York Rite Masonry, he is a member of Valley Royal Arch Chapter No. 289; Excelsior Mark Lodge No. 216; Oliver Council No. 13, Royal and Select Masters; and Kedron Commandery No. 18, Knights Templar. He is a member of Constans Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, Johnstown, and York Rite College, Golden Triangle No. 32, Pittsburgh.

He is a member of the Scottish Rite bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh, including The Gourgas Lodge of Perfection, Pennsylvania Council of Princes of Jerusalem, Pittsburgh Chapter of Rose Croix, and Pennsylvania Consistory. He was coroneted a 33º Mason in Boston in 1996.

Bro. Ernette is a Shriner in Syria Temple, Pittsburgh; a member of Caravan Eight, A.A.O.N.M.S.; and The Royal Order of Jesters, Pittsburgh Court No. 2. He is a member of the PIN Club, Pittsburgh, and L.A.M.A.S. Club in Latrobe. In 1987, he was the Grand Tall Cedar of Westmoreland Forest No. 77, and is a member of Islam Grotto, M.O.V.P.E.R, Pittsburgh.

He is a member of the International Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay, and was awarded the Honorary Legion of Honor. He also is a member of the National Sojourners No. 130, Carlisle; Allied Masonic Degrees, Grand Masters Council "A"; and the Royal Order of Scotland, Provincial Grand Lodge of the U.S.

He is active in professional and community services. He is a Board member of the Latrobe Area Chamber of Commerce; on the Board of Directors of the Latrobe Area Community Development Corp.; the Central Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce; the Ligonier Chamber of Commerce and the East Suburban Chamber of Commerce.
