As a fraternal courtesy to the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, Cederic L. Smith (right), a Past Grand Master and the R.W. Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Vermont presented a 50-Year Emblem of Gold to Walter T. Hempel (front), a member of Hiram Lodge No. 81, Chestnut Hill. The presentation was made to Bro. Hempel during a special program July 15, the day before his 88th birthday, in the Mayo Assisted Living Home, Northfield, VT. Harmony Blend, a lady barbershop quartet, accompanied P.G.M. Smith and favored Bro. Hempel with two songs, "Thank You Dear Lord for Music" and "I Believe" and led all attending in singing his favorite hymn, "In the Garden." The quartet (l-r) are: Kathy Rotundi; his daughter, Bonnie (Hempel) Rinehart; Ann Winter; and Mary Slater. The Grand Secretary also presented Bro. Hempel with his 50-year pin from Scottish Rite.
