Ground was broken Aug. 15 by James L. Ernette, R.W. Grand Master, along with other Grand Lodge officers, Masonic dignitaries, and government officials, to begin the construction of the Freemasons Pavilion at the Pittsburgh Veterans Administration Health Care Center in Aspinwall, O'Hara Township.
The new facility will provide a place for residents of the VA Hospital and their families to visit, an outdoor place for entertainment, and a focal point for special activities.
In his remarks at the ground breaking ceremony, Grand Master Ernette said, "We are a nation grateful to those who won us our independence, and those who fought and sacrificed through more than two centuries to protect and preserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans.... (This is) a way to say 'thank you' to those who served their country, and their countrymen so well."
William M. Kratzenberg, D.D.G.M., 54th Masonic District, is the chairman for the project, which includes accepting lodge and individual contributions to support the Grand Lodge commitment. He said that plans are being made for formal dedication of the pavilion on May 15, 1999. |
