For the 34th year, the American Serbian Eastern Rite Brothers (ASERB) held their annual scholarship awards banquet at the American Serbian Club in Aliquippa and presented six $1,000 awards. To date, more than 150 scholarships have been granted for a total of $107,350.
Recipients of the awards are (front, l-r): Heather Vukulic, Daniel Silianoff, Christopher Rocknage, Geno Raseta, Natalia Paich, and Anthony Cervo. In the rear are: Barbara and Michael Mochan, ASERB President and master of ceremonies; Maria and William Slater II, R.W. Junior Grand Warden, who were the special guests; and Mary Ann and Dr. Nicholas Tomich, keynote speaker. In his address, Dr. Tomich reminded the scholarship honorees of the tremendous sacrifices made by our pioneer forefathers to create the educational and career opportunities available to this generation, then contrasted and compared the lifestyles and problems of the past with those of the present.
The ASERB announced that the 35th annual banquet will be a reunion of all past scholarship recipients on June 19, 1999 at the Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton, WV.
