Laurie A. Bortner, R.N., Nurse Manager for the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, was selected as the recipient of the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania's Patient's Choice Award for 2006. She was honored at the 17th Annual Gala on October 13 at the Wyndham on Lindle Avenue in Harrisburg, Pa. Bortner earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Villa Julie College, Stevenson, Md.

She joined the Masonic Village in 2000.

The Patient Choice Award is presented to an exemplary nurse who has made a significant difference in the life of a patient or family and has been nominated by a patient, significant other in the life of the patient or a family member.

The Nightingale Awards Gala honors exceptional nurses practicing in the Commonwealth. The awards program is intended to give state and national recognition to its recipients. Each award recognizes outstanding nurses in various areas of practice in addition to the recipient of the Patient Choice Award.
