Masonic Children's Home Youth Enjoy Canal Bike and Camping Trip

bike1Residents and staff of the Masonic Children's Home enjoyed a bike and camping trip when they toured the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal this summer. At the end of each day of the trip, tents were set up, and supper was prepared for the weary bikers. Going for a cool swim in the river proved to be a good way of cooling off after a long day of biking. The scenery was beautiful and the museums and landmarks were very educational.

To prepare for the excursion, a bike and boat trailer (left) had to be built. Jake Pilkerton, Masonic Children's Home resident, volunteered his time and manpower to do the job. The trailer not only carried the bikes and boat, but it also accommodated several tents, food, cooking supplies, and other necessities.

bike2In particular, thanks go to Perseverance Lodge No. 21, Harrisburg, and Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682, Elizabethtown, for their financial and moral support that made this exceptional opportunity possible for the children.
