A $24,000 contribution from George Washington Lodge No. 143, Chambersburg, is a major reason the Salvation Army of Chambersburg placed into service its new mobile emergency disaster services unit. The vehicle will be available to assist all Franklin County fire departments as well as the fire departments of surrounding counties when requested. Bro. Larry Shoemaker, Chairman of the Salvation Army Disaster Unit and member of George Washington Lodge noted that the contribution represented nearly half of the vehicle's cost and said, "I am very proud that the Lodge was a major sponsor for this very important community asset which will serve the area for more than 20 years." The Masonic insignia is displayed on the driver's side and on the left rear door of the vehicle in recognition of the Lodge's support. The vehicle was dispatched Sept. 11 to New York City for assistance in the World Trade Center disaster rescue efforts.
