In September, another class of 35 D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officers participated in training at the Masonic Conference Center on the Patton Campus at Elizabethtown. When graduated, they brought the total number of police officers trained courtesy of the Pennsylvania Masonic Foundation for Children to more than 750. One more of those classes in 2001 was scheduled for training in October. Additionally, a middle school mentor training will be held, expanding the program into the upper grades. The support of Pennsylvania Masons makes it possible for more communities across the Commonwealth to have this vital program. The entire D.A.R.E. Program is being revamped with the benefit of a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. All of the updated training will be at the Patton Campus with the Foundation for Children as the host. The Samuel C. Williamson Multimedia Center in Memorial Hall, along with the upgrading of all of the facilities at the Patton Campus, has given law enforcement in Pennsylvania a most modern training center for D.A.R.E. |
