Stotz, the founder of Little League Baseball, Pennsylvania Freemasons presented an evening open-air concert for the community in the "Quad" at Lycoming College starring Don McLean and the Lettermen. They invited the public and they came by the thousands. The Lettermen performed first in a non-stop hour-long performance, sang their memorable popular lyrics typified by their first hit, "The Way You Look Tonight." After a half-hour intermission, singer and song-writer Don McLean topped off the highly spirited evening with an hour-long performance climaxed with his well-known "American Pie" to which the enthusiastic audience joined in each chorus singing the words "Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie...." There was no official count available for the free concert, but security personnel estimated the crowd at approximately 8,000 persons. |
