After nearly four years of planning, fund-raising, and construction, the youth of Media have a new playground as a result of successful community involvement in which George Bartram-Paul Sand Lodge No. 298, Media, was a major participant. The effort began in 1999 when James Standish, P.M., was the Worshipful Master. Succeeding Worshipful Masters, William Seganti, P.M., and Benjamin Moroff, P.M., carried on the project and completion came this year with Henry Clemens as the W.M. The project, originally a joint effort between the Lodge and the Parents-Teachers Group of State Street Elementary School (P.T.G.), was perceived to cost up to $20,000, but grew to $75,000. It was the "seed" funding of $15,000 over three years by the Lodge that served as the financial foundation. The Lodge and P.T.G., along with the school principal, tackled the task of raising funds and garnered financial and in-kind support from Media Borough, Media Recreation Commission, the Rotary Club of Media, Media Rotary Foundation, Rose Tree-Media School District, and individuals throughout the community. The playground was dedicated May 1 and a section to be used by children ages four to seven years was dedicated by George Bartram-Paul Sand Lodge No. 298. An appropriate plaque was placed designating it as the Lodge's gift. |
