One of the most sought-after organists in the world today, Hector Olivera, will present a recital in the magnificent Corinthian Hall of the Masonic Temple, Philadelphia on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hector Olivera began his musical studies with his father as teacher. At age six, he started serious study in organ as well as harmony at the Buenos Aires Conservatory. At age nine, the Buenos Aires Symphony orchestra performed a suite he had composed for oboe and string orchestra. He studied at the Conservatory of Music and at the young age of 12, he entered the University of Buenos Aires. By 18, he had performed some 300 concerts in Latin America and had appeared frequently on national radio and television. It was at this point he was offered a scholarship to attend the Julliard School of Music in New York. Hector Olivera has performed extensively worldwide, including Australia, Japan, Holland, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Paris, Italy, and Spain. By special invitation, Olivera played two solo concerts in the international music concert series for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The Atlanta Journal quoted: "Olivera swept the audience with absolute Olympic virtuosity, and that still doesn't say it...Hector Olivera is in a class by himself" and "Hector Olivera...the Michael Jordan of the music industry." Olivera has released more than 20 recordings from classical to contemporary and film score transcriptions. He continues to thrill audiences with both solo classical literature and his own orchestral transcriptions. Hector Olivera is a dedicated and talented musician whose very personal interpretations of music literature have proved popular with diverse audiences worldwide.
