534

Every other week, dedicated blood donor, Elvin Snyder, P.M., John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534, Punxsutawney, drives 90 miles each way to give two units of platelets. (His platelet count is high enough to allow him to do that.) Since he started giving platelets in 1993, he has given 242 units (It takes eight units of whole blood to make one unit of platelets.) In addition to the platelets, he has given 332 units of whole blood throughout his lifetime. Not only is he a donor, but he also has issued a standing invitation to provide transportation for anyone interested in donating platelets. Furthermore, he is an active member of Lodge No. 534 and has helped at every bloodmobile sponsored by the Lodge.

Also, John W. Jenks Lodge No. 534, Punxsutawney, joined with the American Red Cross and the Jefferson County Emergency Medical Service in a blood drive that attracted 221 persons and collected 190 units. Among the donors were 18 Masons. The drive was conducted to honor Paul Pape, who has been receiving blood for treatment for leukemia.
