At the April 4 stated meeting of Howell Lodge No. 405, Honey Brook, Wayne S. Gabel (center at left and at right), who is 104 years of age, was presented a 75-year certificate of recognition from the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania by Marvin A. Cunningham, Sr., R.W. Deputy Grand Master (front, left). The Masonic birthday ceremony was conducted by Harry E. Hackman, Jr., D.D.G.M., 5th Masonic District (rear, center), and Phillip B. DeMarra, P.M. and W.M. (front, right), assisted by Russell W. Baker and James T. Young, P.D.D.G.M.s (rear, left and right).
A birthday celebration took place in the social hall with Bro. Gabel's family and families of the lodge members present. In addition to the Grand Lodge recognition, the brethren wanted to give a gift from the lodge to Bro. Gabel, who still is able to attend a stated meeting. But, what do you give a 104-year old lodge member on his 75th Masonic birthday? The answer to that required some investigation and observation. Bro. Gabel insists on wearing a baseball cap with a Masonic emblem as he wheels around Tel Hai Retirement Community where he resides, so the brethren decided he would enjoy a new cap. The gift he received is custom-made with a square and compasses emblem. He is delighted and wears it with great pride. | |
