Your Help Would Mean a Lot! Whether you can offer only a few hours one time, or you would like to volunteer on a regular basis, your service is welcomed and needed at the Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown, the Masonic Eastern Star Home-East at Warminster, and the Masonic Village at Sewickley. Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown Residents in the Masonic Health Care Center and Freemasons Building play bingo on the first Saturday of each month, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist residents to the Roosevelt Assembly Room, as well as to help them with their cards, pass out prizes, and offer additional social interaction. Every Sunday afternoon, volunteers are needed to escort residents of the Masonic Health Care Center and the Freemasons Building to and from the church service held in the Roosevelt Assembly Room. Volunteers are needed from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. On Tuesday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the American Health Care Apparel Company will set up a "store" in the Masonic Health Care Center for residents to purchase both traditional and adaptive clothing, shoes, and accessories. Volunteers will be needed to escort residents and assist them with their shopping needs. The Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown again will be hosting a Summer youth program, providing many different volunteer opportunities for youth ages 13 and older. Participants are requested to volunteer a minimum of a half-day each week during the Summer and must attend an all-day orientation on June 17. Anyone interested in learning more about these or other volunteer opportunities at the Masonic Homes at Elizabethtown may contact Cynthia B. Hollinger, Director, Volunteer Services, at (717) 367-1121, extension 33175. Masonic Eastern Star Home-East at Warminster Assistance is needed with a variety of activities, including trips, socials, and bingo. The home also would like to establish a network of volunteers to develop relationships with residents through regular one-on-one visits and correspondence. If you would like to learn more about the volunteer needs at the Masonic Eastern Star Home-East, please contact Trisha Lamb, Activities Director, at (215) 672-2500. Masonic Village at Sewickley Volunteers are needed to spend one-on-one time with residents, take them for walks outdoors, play cards, read, or visit and reminisce. For those with a green thumb, help is needed for residents working with plants in their rooms and in the flower/vegetable garden in the Summer months. Volunteers also are needed to share their computer knowledge, and teach residents how to "surf the net" and e-mail family and friends. The Activities Department also would welcome assistance in the craft room, on community outings, and with special events. If you are a woodworker, perhaps you could cut out figures on a jigsaw that residents could then finish with paint or stain. Or maybe you are musically talented and would like to lead a sing-along or play an instrument. Do you own a friendly pet that would like to visit and enjoy a little extra TLC from the residents, while bringing smiles to their faces? To schedule time to volunteer, or hear more about the opportunities available at the Masonic Village at Sewickley, please contact Ann Beck, Activities Director, at (412) 741-1400. |
