A dozen automated external defibrillators (A.E.D.) are in service to save lives in three school districts and one fire company as the result of an effort that started with an auction early last summer by Masons of Howell Lodge No. 405, Honey Brook, and culminated in donations a week before Christmas. Cooperating in the American Heart Association's "Operation Heartbeat," the Lodge purchased and donated six units.

Defibrillators were presented to Eastern Lancaster County School District, Pequea Valley School District, Twin Valley School District, and the Blue Ball Fire Co. Pictured is the presentation to the Twin Valley School District by Phillip B. DeMarra, then-W.M. and Coordinator of the Project (center, right); J. Richard Eby, Sec. (right); Bro. Kenneth Player (left); and Bro. Gary Dukeman (third from right). Receiving the A.E.D. for Twin Valley School District are Dr. Al Cunningham, Assistant Superintendent (second from left); Melissa Herb, Assistant High School Principal (center, left); and Kristen Herbein, School Nurse (second from right).

The Lodge raised money at an auction that was held on June 16 and through membership appeals, community donations, participation by Masonic youth groups and schools, and with the help of Sky Flight Care and the American Heart Association.
