Members of Kiskiminetas Lodge No. 617, Vandergrift, made their town's "Operation Santa Claus" program conducted by the Salvation Army, a hearty success. The brethren held a food drive at a local grocery store during December, asking shoppers to donate one non-perishable food item upon leaving. According to Harvey F. Fishel, D.D.G.M., 39th Masonic District, the shoppers' response was overwhelming. The Lodge then purchased 18 turkeys and additional necessary non-perishable items to complete a Christmas food package for families recommended by the Salvation Army. Also included in the food packet was a small store cash voucher for each recipient to buy something special to complement the holiday meal.

In another community effort, Paul Black, W.M., of Kiskiminetas Lodge awarded the ownership of the Lodge-sponsored Gold Star Mothers bench at the Veterans Memorial to the Vandergrift Joint Veterans organization.
