When Rev. William D. Hartman (right), a Grand Chaplain and a member of Lodge No. 9, Philadelphia, was appointed Director of the Special Care Unit for Alzheimer's and dementia residents at Evangelical Manor in Philadelphia, he realized that there was an immediate need for a better security system to assure that none of the residents could wander from the unit. It would cost $5,000 to install special alarmed doors operated by a key pad. Bro. Hartman appealed to his Lodge, which responded in partnership with the Grand Lodge Matching Grants Program. A check sufficient to provide for the security system was presented by Albert W. Woodhead, W.M. (left), to the President of Evangelical Manor, Bro. J. Edward Burleigh, also a member of Lodge No. 9. Bro. and Rev. Hartman also serves as the Director of Pastoral Care at the home.
