Grand Master Robert L. Dluge, Jr., and the American Heart Asso-ciation have teamed together in developing a program that will save lives by placing 1,000 automatic external defibrillators (AED) throughout the Common-wealth. "I strongly urge each lodge to give serious consideration to this vital program of public health and safety, and lead a community effort to put an AED into the hands of emergency medical, police, and fire officials where needed," said Grand Master Dluge. The Grand Master is encouraging lodges to use a Masonic Matching Charity Grant to place one of these lifesaving devices in the lodge's community.
Lodges are being asked to raise $2,000 to be matched in charity grants for a total of $4,000. The funds will provide for the purchase of one AED to be placed in the local community, training for a limited number of individuals that will need to be certified to use the AED, and public awareness materials to be distributed by the lodges. Lodge officers interested in more information about this effort are asked to please contact their District Deputy Grand Master, or Judy Donnelly, VP of Programming, Communications and Advocacy for the American Heart Association, Pennsylvania-Delaware Affiliate by calling toll-free 1-800-243-2780, extension 140.
