In November 1997, David Woodhead, W.M. of Tacony Lodge No. 9, Philadelphia called Gilson "Buz" Cash, Director of the Masonic Children's Home, with a plan to make the holidays extra special for the 38 youths residing at the Masonic Homes.
The Lodge decided to spend the funds from its charity fund to purchase "wish items" for the children in a special way. More than 50 lodge members and their families held a Christmas party for the youth from the Children's Home on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 14. Lodge members and their families provided food for the celebration. They bought gifts for each of the children, having chosen special items from the children's "wish" lists, such as: bicycles, dolls, games, movie passes, toys, and practical gifts for the seniors. The lodge also bought two big screen television/VCRs to be shared in two of the children's cottages. For the children, it was as delightful as Christmas morning: the children's faces lit up like Christmas trees at the sight of the brightly colored packages. They quickly scrambled to find which presents held their names.
The Tall Cedars Clowns came along to add entertainment, laughter, and fun to the afternoon. A few members of the Somerton Chapter of the order of DeMolay and their advisor also came along to help make the day a success. |
