The Masonic Village at Sewickley is well on its way to becoming one of the most beautiful retirement communities in Western Pennsylvania. The warm Fall weather allowed construction to proceed at a rapid pace as the Star Points Building was completed, and the retirement living clubhouse and first apartments began to take shape.

The Star Points Building assisted living residence was completed and fully occupied as of the end of December. The Star Points Building offers 60 apartments, a dining room, great room, assembly room, terraces, medical clinics, and a day care center for 40 children. On Oct. 26, the Committee on Masonic Homes held a date stone ceremony for the Star Points Building, as well as a groundbreaking ceremony for the community's first phase of retirement living construction.

During the date stone ceremony, Robert L. Dluge Jr., then-R.W. Grand Master, made a special presentation of his Grand Master's Medallion to B.J. Franks, Executive Director of the Masonic Village at Sewickley. He also presented the final payment on a $25,000 contribution to William Davis Jr., Chief of the Aleppo Township Fire Department, to support the department's tremendous service of protection for the residents of Aleppo Township.

As a life-care community, the Masonic Village at Sewickley offers residents an agreement under which they will continue to pay the same monthly fee for assisted living and nursing services, should they need them, as they do for retirement living services. It's like getting long-term care insurance in addition to the community's unique lifestyle.

Along with its view toward the Ohio River Valley, the Masonic Village at Sewickley will feature a spacious clubhouse with two restaurant-style dining facilities, a bank, library, auditorium, computer classroom, and many more amenities, including walking trails offering scenic paths throughout the picturesque campus.

Based on vast interest, along with a generous donation from the estate of Bro. William S. Barley, who was a member of Doric Lodge No. 630 in Sewickley, the Committee on Masonic Homes approved the start of construction for a wellness center on the campus. The wellness center will include an indoor pool and fitness center, with an opening anticipated in Spring 2003. As construction plans are finalized, additional donations will be sought to fully fund this wonderful facility.

At the end of November 2001, the first of three phases for retirement living was half reserved, as were the phase two villa homes. Reservations continue to increase as more choose to be among the first to live in the dynamic new community. In total, there will be 228 retirement living apartments and 35 villa homes for prospective residents. The first of these will be available in Spring 2003.
