Rainbow girlsRainbow Girls of Pennsylvania were a part of the Ninth annual "Make a Difference Day," the nation's largest day of helping others sponsored by USA Weekend along with 550 local newspapers that distribute the magazine. The Points of Light Foundation and its nationwide network of 501 volunteer centers are partners in this project. Millions of Americans reach out to help others on the fourth Saturday of October.

Assemblies across the state worked to "Fill Up Our Food Banks" by contacting stores in their areas for permission to set up collection tables. Rainbow Girls worked throughout the day in approximately 40 locations. Well over 300 persons put in a cumulative total of 320 hours and collected more than 6,000 non-perishable items and more than $500. Many of the food banks were overwhelmed with the contributions. The Rainbow Girls feel good knowing that at least 500 families, if not more, would be helped.
