Through the Masonic Blood Bank and Organ Donor Committee, Masons of Pennsylvania participated in two Gift of Life donor programs in which 38 families were recognized for the donation of organs from loved ones who had died within the past year.
On Sunday, Nov. 7 in Zembo Temple, Harrisburg, then-R.W. Grand Secretary Thomas W. Jackson welcomed the donor families and recipients. In remarks, he recalled the support which Masons have been giving the program since its inception four years ago. The next Sunday in the Masonic Temple, Philadelphia, A. J. "Bud" Garvey, Chief of Staff for Grand Lodge Operations, spoke of the Masonic Fraternity's dedication to assisting the program of organ donations.
The Grand Lodge Committee Chairman F. Rick Knepper presented $500 to the Gift of Life Donor Program to assist in the purchase of organ donor medals.
