Bro. & Mrs. SchneiderBro. and Mrs. Bill Schneider with The Duchess of York

Bill and Helen Schneider moved to the Masonic Homes retirement community this summer. Like many other Independent Living residents, they enjoy the security and quality lifestyle which Masonic Homes offer in a more carefree environment.

When asked if it was a difficult decision to leave their home in Scranton, the answer was an emphatic, "No!" The spacious cottage the Schneider's chose allowed them to bring all their furniture from their former residence. They definitely won't miss the work that goes along with home ownership and its never-ending maintenance.

You might ask, "What was their most difficult decision in making the move?" Believe it or not, it was sharing Bill's decision with his business partner that he was retiring! Bill and his partner worked together for 35 years, including 18 years in their own consulting engineering firm, H.S.A. Associates. Bill recalls when he and his partner survived a devastating fire that destroyed their business only a year after start-up. It was a terrific partnership, and a few tears were shed when Bill broke the news that he was retiring and moving to Independent Living at the Masonic Homes.

Today, Bill is back in the working world. He began a part-time job at a local hardware store just three weeks after moving to Elizabethtown and is now looking at the possibility of joining another engineering firm in the area. Bill quipped, "I just can't sit still!"

Helen enjoys reading, suggesting she will read every book in the various campus libraries. She was thrilled to learn that their dog of nine years, The Duchess of York, would be able to join them in their new cottage.

Bill and Helen say they have enjoyed a wonderful life. They will celebrate 51 years of marriage in April 2000. They believe moving to Independent Living will provide them with the opportunity to continue their wonderful life together during the busy and exciting years ahead.
