Westmoreland Lodge No. 518 Volunteers at Hunger Garden for area Food Bank
On Monday evening, July 12, 2010, several members of Westmoreland Lodge No. 518 of Greensburg, Pa., volunteered at the local Hunger Garden near Madison, Pa. The Hunger Garden is the creation of the Shaver Family who donates more than ten acres of farmland to grow crops for the Westmoreland County Food Bank. Volunteers work each Monday evening in the garden, doing manual labor, which includes, weeding, planting, harvesting, and tying tomato plants, which is what the members of the Lodge were tasked to accomplish on this evening. Worshipful Master, Robert S. Metcalfe, P.M., has pledged for the Lodge to continue its service through October, when the garden’s harvest will be completed for this year. After completing the evening’s work, the members shared refreshments and fellowship at a local restaurant.
