This is said to have been a scandalous publication published by Leo Taxil. It is said that he was heavily fined for this publication. This seems to have happened before or around 1885. See "The Story of Freemasonry" by Sibley page 29.

I would guess that Pope Pius IX and the Catholic Church was not happy with this publication.

I have never seen this publication so I guess I will have to look for it. Might be interesting.
