What Freemasons Should Study

Freemasons are taught during the receiving of the Degrees that they should study the seven liberal arts and sciences.

Study of the arts and sciences is a worthy goal for all people, however many, especially in our so-called modern society, seem to lack any desire to become more knowledgeable in anything that requires more thought than watching the idiot box or a sporting event.

At least the Freemasons encourage each other to search for knowledge, the great object of our desire.

I love to study and thereby gain knowledge.  I find it hard to understand why so many Americans, especially the younger generation, seem to despise learning.  Having been a teacher of Physics for over 30 years I have noticed a massive decrease in the desire for knowledge by students.  This is not to say that all modern students are this way, but way too many do nothing that may benefit themselves or civilization.  On the other hand, some of the very best students I have ever taught, have graduated in the past few years.  Perhaps there is still hope for our country and for the human race.

Those who have useful knowledge will do better than those who lack useful knowledge.

As all Freemasons have heard, "Knowledge is attained by degrees and cannot everywhere be found."
