War of 1812 

There was an anti-Masonic feeling toward Freemasons during the War of 1812.

By the 1820's, shortly after the War of 1812, American Freemasonry had become the most numerous non-denominational organization in the United States of America.  It was also the most powerful organization in all of New England. (See "Who's Afraid of Freemasons?" by Piatigorsky page 166-167)
