War for Southern Independence
This is probably the best name for the War between the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. In the South the term 'War of Northern Aggression' is often used. By the time the war started, commonly called the Civil War or "The War Between the States', the Confederate States of America was a new country that had separated from the United States of America. The CSA was formed mainly over issues of the Rights of the States that were being usurped by the Federal Government of the United States of America. Slavery may have played a small part in the start of the war but was not really that big of an issue in either the North or the South since only a small percentage of Southerners owned any slaves. Also people in the North still owned slaves, but not very many.
