Twenty-two is the number of picture cards that are called the Major Arcana in the Tarot, while the modern Deck of Cards has only 52 cards due to the Catholic Church having declared the Knights Templar as Heretics which caused the removal of the face (court) cards known as the knights in an attempt at removing all references to the Knights Templar.
