Thrice Great 

Thrice Great seems to have meant being well versed in the three great parts of Knowledge, which are Alchemy, Astrology, and theurgy.  At least this is said to be how Hermes Trismegistus got known as being Thrice Great. (See "Cracking the Freemasons Code" by Cooper page 41)
