Three Knocks

The three knocks are first made by a man seeking admission into a Lodge of Masons.  The three knocks are made by the man seeking admission from without the Lodge.  They will be answered by three knocks from within to Lodge.

The three knocks are thusly explained.

    1. Ask and it shall be given to you.

    2. Seek and ye shall find.

    3. Knock and it shall be opened unto you.

Three knocks are required to be admitted as a Freemason.

Three more are requited to be made a Fellow of the Craft

Three more are required to be made a Master Mason.

Thus it takes a total of nine knocks to become a Master Mason.

At least in Pennsylvania.
