Thomas Jefferson's Wheel 

Thomas Jefferson's Wheel was a cipher machine Thomas Jefferson created for encoding messages. It consisted of 36 wooden disks each with the alphabet in a different order.  A version of it was still in use by the USNAVY during WW2.  (See "Code Breaking" p 29)
