Suspension of Membership for Non-Payment of Dues

This is the most common reason for a Mason to be Suspended from Freemasonry.

It is a shame that so many Masons do not value Freemasonry enough to pay the rather small monetary amount of the dues.  In a few cases the it is possible that the Mason did not get his dues notice (Perhaps his wife destroyed it because she did not like him being at at a Lodge meeting instead of with her) and just did not think to pay them. However the fact that dues are due is printed in at least several Monthly Notices.  Perhaps he moved away and/or got a new job that kept him too busy to attend Lodge. And sometimes an unforeseen event such as job loss or a serious injury may make paying the dues a real hardship.  Dues in most lodges amount to less than the cost of a cup of coffee per week so the cost of dues should not be a real big problem for most men.  Lodge dues cost about the same as a pack of cigarettes per month.

If the small amount of money is a real problem the Mason should notify the Secretary of the Worshipful Master of the problem and perhaps the Lodge may remit his dues for him, and enable him to maintain his membership.
