Star of Bethlehem

The so-called Star of Bethlehem is considered by Christians to have been a star that was over the stable in which Jesus Christ is said to have been born that is said to have enabled the Three Wise Men (Three Magi) to find Jesus Christ.
There is no proof that it ever existed as any special star. If it ever existed as a special star it is long gone. Most likely it was the star we now call Sirius, which is said to be the brightest star in the sky in the winter sky. (See MPD_0028 for more information)
It no longer exists so Christians seem to accept it as fact by faith alone instead of requiring any reasonable proof.
According to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 2, the Three Wise Men saw the Star of Bethlehem rise in the east. Perhaps the Three Wise Men represented the Three Stars that make up the Belt of Orion.
