A square is a four sided geometric shape that has four sides of equal length and four equal angles of 90 degrees each.
A square is also the tool used by builders and Masons to assure that the sides are at right angles to each other.
The square is a very important symbol in Freemasonry, as it is in the construction industry.
Treating someone 'on the square' means to be honest with them and to not cheat them.
The square is said by some to represent the female or passive Generative Principle, or to represent the female sex organ. This concept is commonly used by Anti-Masons in their never-ending attempt to get people to hate the Freemasons. Since there is nothing in Freemasonry that is not honorable the ignorant Anti-Masons have to be creative in their hatred of the Freemasons.
