Senior Deacon
The Senior Deacon is an Appointed Officer in a Lodge of Masons. He sits below and at the right hand of the Worshipful Master. Each Lodge has two Deacons.
The Senior Deacon presents the Flag at the Altar.
The Senior Deacon carries the Ballot Box for voting.
The Senior Deacon carries messages from the Worshipful Master in the East to the Senior Warden in the West so that the business of the Lodge may be conducted in secrecy and with dispatch.
In the ideal progression of Officers of a Lodge the Senior Deacon will advance to the Office of the Junior Warden for the next Masonic Year. At the same time the Junior Deacon should advance to become the Senior Deacon for the ensuing Masonic Year beginning of Saint John's Day Next. This does not always happen for a variety of reasons.
