Secretary Duties with respect to Money
The Secretary of the Lodge is responsible for collecting all monies received by the Lodge except for interest received on the accounts of the Trustees.
By far the biggest pain for the Secretary is the Collecting of Dues each year. This is made more difficult by the fact that many Masons will not pay their dues in a timely manner. They seem to have no consideration for the fact that their being delinquent in the payments of their dues causes the Secretary to have to do a lot more work. Doctors and Lawyers seem to the worst offenders even though they usually earn a lot more money than the average working man. Perhaps they see their time as more valuable than that of the Secretary. Downright inconsiderate of them to force the Secretary to do so much extra work because of their negligence.
Each month the Secretary of the Lodge must list all monies received by the Lodge and must also list all expenses that need to be paid by the Lodge.
This information is read each month by the Secretary of the Lodge during the Stated Meeting of the Lodge. The information must also be recorded in the Minutes Book of the Lodge.
The Secretary needs to keep very accurate records so that the Audit of the Lodge Funds will go smoothly each year.
The Secretary should use some Accounting Program such as Quicken or even Excel to make the record keeping easier. I use both.
